Professor Spencer Lalonde

Professor Spencer Lalonde is a IBJJF certified  Third Degree Black Belt under 4th degree IBJJF certified Black Belt Professor Rodrigo Munduruca, and Jorge Britto. Spencer began his grappling career as an amateur wrestler in 1990. After moving to Winnipeg, he began studying the gentle art under World Champion Rodrigo Munduruca, who has since promoted him through each rank.

Today Spencer is the Head Instructor at Submission Arts Academy in Barrie. With a deep family history of coaching, Spencer's love for giving back was inspired by his late Grandfather "Coach" Jim Fletcher who is a Hall of Fame coach in Michigan. Spencer strives to be the best coach imaginable by making learning possible for anyone, regardless of skill, age, gender or motivation. Spencer has competed in countless amateur wrestling and BJJ tournaments at each rank making him an ideal coach for anyone looking to learn or improve their skills. Spencer is a pillar in the Barrie community, he's always looking for ways to give back and to make his community better today then it was yesterday. He brings with him a wealth of Global knowledge and experience from years of coaching and cornering professional Mixed Martial Arts fighters in the UFC, Sengoku Japan, Score Fighting Series and The Canadian Fighting Championship. Spencer has trained with a wide array of BJJ, MMA, and Kickboxing Champions including Joe Doerksen, Demian Maia, Jeremy Horn, and Duke Roufus amongst others.

 

Nathan Dos Santos

Coach Nathan Dos Santos is a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under Professor Jorge Britto. Coach Nate is one of Canada’s top competitors. Coach Nate’s home Academy is Toronto BJJ, however he frequently comes to Submission Arts Academy to teach. His attention to detail and ability to breakdown technique is second to none. Coach Nate’s professionalism and willingness to help all those around him improve their Jiu-Jitsu makes him a welcome part of the coaching staff at Submission Arts Academy.”

 

Bill Matthews
Bill is a black belt under Professor Spencer Lalonde. Bill has a background in freestyle wrestling and has also trained in the art of Catch Wrestling in Japan. Bill has been training Jiu-Jitsu since 2011 and joined the art for a specific reason “I lacked focus and a goal in my life”. Having traveled the world as a professional wrestler Bill achieved his life’s dream, what was next? “Jiu-Jitsu has helped me get back on my feet, both physically and mentally. Jiu-Jitsu is a never ending lesson in problem solving and discipline. These are two things I feel very passionate about. And with the team at Submission Arts Academy you get the added bonus of a great family atmosphere!” Bill is a valuable member of our coaching staff with a primary focus of No Gi Submission Wrestling with an in-depth knowledge of leg locks.

Adam Laroche

Adam Laroche is a black belt under Professor Spencer Lalonde. Fascinated on how practical and realistic BJJ can be used in real life outside of the academy. Adam began his Brazilian jiu-jitsu journey in 2008 in Barrie Ontario. Adam has been training under Spencer Lalonde since 2011. Very open minded to different styles of BJJ, Adam helps to encourage and direct students to help find what works best for them as individuals. Powered by a strong work ethic, Adam not only applies this to his own training but reminds teammates that “consistency is king”.

 

Deline Cheth
Deline is a black belt under Professor Spencer Lalonde. Deline has been training in a variety of different Martial Arts since 1991.  He started training in Jiu-Jitsu in 2005. Deline is a family man with strong values and has a wealth of knowledge and experience in Jiu-Jitsu. One of many things we love to see at Submission Arts Academy is when parents get the opportunity to train with their children, you can often see Deline and his daughter sharing the mats together. Deline has an open mind to both learning and teaching. Deline is passionate about Jiu-Jitsu and is dedicated to helping the students achieve their goals

Rayne and Gryphon are highly decorated life-long Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu students. They are living examples of how children who start early can achieve great things. They are consistently winning at the local, national, and international level, in both Wrestling and BJJ competition. As coaches at Submission Arts Academy, Gryphon and Rayne are caring and nurturing instructors, serving as excellent role models for all of our young students. They instill a positive attitude and strong work ethic among all those they influence.

Trevor Reid-Sneath
Trevor is a Blue Belt under Professor Spencer Lalonde. Trevor began is grappling journey in 2006 as a high school wrestler, with a strong desire to continue to compete and expend his grappling knowledge he found Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in 2015. Trevor has competed in countless wrestling and Jiu-Jitsu tournaments. Trevors enthusiasm and attention to detail is unrivaled. Trevor's ability to transfer knowledge to both adults and kids is what makes him such a valuable member of the coaching staff at Submission Arts Academy.
